About the Council

A Century-Old Legacy, At Home in Hudson County

The National Pan-Hellenic Council was founded in 1930 at Howard University to bring the historically Black Greek-letter fraternities and sororities — the organizations known today as the Divine Nine — into one coordinated body devoted to scholarship, service, and civic action.

Established in 2022, the NPHC of Hudson County carries that mission into New Jersey's most densely populated county. Our member chapters serve Jersey City, Bayonne, Hoboken, Union City, and every community in between.

We coordinate joint community service, promote unanimity of thought and action among our member organizations, and stand as one voice on the issues that matter to Black communities across Hudson County.

Governance

How the Council Works

The council operates under the national NPHC constitution and locally adopted bylaws (most recently revised in 2023). Each member organization seats a representative and delegate, and the General Body meets monthly to conduct council business, vote on motions, and coordinate programming.

General Body Meetings

The General Body convenes monthly (with a summer recess) — virtually and in person at 171 Seaview Avenue, Jersey City, NJ.

Members of the nine organizations can reach out for participation details; official announcements go out through chapter distribution lists.
